Notes:
Sebastiaan Faber, Professor in the Department of Hispanic Studies at Oberlin College, found a copy of the poster at the collection of the IISG in Amsterdam, made in 1981 by the "Unión de Mujeres Republicanas Revolucionarias," a Feminist group active in Spain from 1975 to 1999. Peter N. Carroll, Stanford University History Department, says the photos were probably taken by an anarchist group in the north, from Catalonia around 1936, because the Communists didn't have women battalions, and, after 1936, the Republican Government of Spain didn't want women on the front lines as they feared the men would take unnecessary risks to protect the women. CSPG's version of this does not include the name of the Unión de Mujeres Republicanas Revolucionarias. But the version found online does include this attribution. And we still would like to have the name of the photographer/s and designer/s.
