Notes:
Artist's statement: In 1980 I created this image which ran as a front cover for the L.A. WEEKLY. It was a time when people were seriously wondering if Nuclear War would soon break out. The artwork struck a cord with people and proved to be incredibly popular. It was reprinted by unscrupulous businesses without my permission and spread across the entire county in the form of posters and t-shirts. Enormous profits were generated from the illicit sale of my image but I never made a single penny. Oddly enough, the L.A. WEEKLY itself paid me only $20.00 for running my illustration as their front cover... and then attempted to sue me over ownership of the Art, claiming that they "owned" the image since it was published as a cover for their paper. Am I bitter? Maybe just a little... but I derive great satisfaction in knowing that my Art helped to expand and deepen the Anti-War movement, and that the image is now a part of history. http://www.art-for-a-change.com/Vallen/vdraw5.htm
